Of the many pressing issues we're collectively faced with, guidance of the youth is one that requires huge investment. There are many charities, NGO's and well meaning organizations and individuals but there is a fundamental lack of change in the biggest role player - EDUCATION. It's a right and not a privilege but the latter is increasingly predominant. Particularly for youth with little or no support, youth who's parents have failed them perhaps due to their own broken upbringing. Surfing is an activity made up of many facets which include health, exercise, earth and ocean awareness, and of course educational experience.
Most of us take for granted the ease with which we sail through life. Our daily "grind" although termed stressful is largely within our control, and comfort zone.
Look at it in this way: "If you have food in your fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of the world."
Igotnostrings Productions have produced a fantastic documentary focusing on the lives of four young guys. Kross, Declan, Henry and Yeferson have all come from broken homes and disadvantaged childhoods. The documentary shows how, with hope and guidance the boys find meaning and purpose, and take steps to heal their hurts. Surfing is the common ground they share.
